A Means to an Art

January 1, 2005 at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, CA

This body of work brought me back to doing figurative work in a straight forward manner, and just a touch of imagination. I've attempted to reflect people being themselves and in the moment, so to speak. The poses are meant to reflect the individual figures in character. In some works, showing a personal interaction scenario. I used a variety of teas to stain the fired clay, and am please with the effect. I like the warmth of the color tones produced.

Dark & Cheezy
Opening Reception June 9, 2001 at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, CA
Show ran from June 2 to July 4

Published in the local newspaper:

On June 9, from 5 to 7 pm, an opening reception will be held at the Dolphin Gallery for "Dark & Cheezy," an exhibit of drawings from Dorise Ford and sculptures by Art Sanchez.

Art Sanchez adds dimension with his sculptures. His attitude toward art, this show, and life in general are best described in his statement: "For starters, I hope you all enjoy and question what has been done for this show; I know I have. As themes go, there isn't one and I'm very okay with that. The "Dark & Cheezy" concept allowed for a diversity of topics and observations. I believe that my great friend and artist Dorise Ford and I have covered a wide span of life, death, and stuff in between through this show."
